San Sebastian del Oeste Tour takes you through the Breathtaking Mountain road up high into the hidden Pueblo of San Sebastian. San Sebastian’s remote setting has made it one of Mexico’s last remaining secrets, hidden high in the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountains.
This tiny mountain pueblo isn’t far from Puerto Vallarta but feels like a world away. Riding along the paved mountain roadway you see scenes of everyday rural life, along with some of the most amazingly beautiful views the state of Jalisco has to offer!
Learn about the history of this town hidden in the Sierra Madre that was first settled in 1605. The once remote 17th-century mining town of San Sebastian reached its peak of prosperity in the 1700s with over 30,000 inhabitants in the area. The pueblo’s population fluctuated wildly as gold and silver were mined intermittently between the 1600s and the 1930s, and currently has only 600 residents maintaining this pueblo’s true colonial heritage.
San Sebastian is now cultivating coffee and agave in its lush mountainsides while maintaining its charming cobblestone plaza, elegant snow-white buildings, classic Porfirian bandstand, 18th-century church, and historic haciendas, recently earning this community the title of Pueblo Magico from the federal government.
You will be encouraged to experience what San Sebastian has to offer; a local distillery, local organic coffee roaster & Lunch at a local Mexican restaurant
So take a day away from the “big city” of Puerto Vallarta and enjoy a privileged glimpse into colonial Mexico few ever are lucky enough to experience!
